The Assault of the Present on the Rest of Time

In quoting the title of a film by Alexander Kluge from 1985, the talk is trying to establish this years exhibitions as an exemplary model on how to develop and mediate questions and processes arising from the processes and functions of an art university’s collection and archive. The talk will focus on curatorial questions at the intersection of artistic and installation practices, as well as specific tasks in the context of working for Angewandte Collection and Archive. Robert Müller is an artist living in Vienna and Berlin.
Since 2013, he has been programming the exhibition series Nousmoules in Vienna and Berlin. From 2021-2022, he was working as a curator for Kunstverein Nürnberg – Albrecht-Dürer-Gesellschaft. Since 2022, he works as Senior Scientist and Curator for Collection and Archive, University of Applied Arts Vienna.
Exhibitions curated for the Angewandte University Gallery, Heiligenkreuzerhof include: Fernheilung [Distant Healing]. The 1980s and early 1990s through a distorted lens, and Moscow Material. Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky’s Designs for Children’s Furniture (both 2025); Ins Dunkle Schwimmen [Swimming into darkness]. Abysses of the Creative Imperative (w. Cosima Rainer, 2024); Lill Tschudi – Franz Čižek. A delightful sort of game (2023, w. Stefanie Kitzberger), Friedl Dicker-Brandeis. Workshops for visual arts (w. Stefanie Kitzberger and Cosima Rainer) and Schule Oberhuber. A collection as a program (w. Cosima Rainer, both 2022).
